David McCracken’s 2013 “diminish and ascend” is part of this year’s Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi, Australia. McCracken has an interesting project for children going on where he encourages young artists to create artwork based on the sculptures and then send their digital pictures into his website where they are displayed with a photo of the original.

Collect photographs of outdoor sculptures around your city or town and have students create art inspired by the originals. Display side-by-side photos of the original sculptures and the student works and ask students to compare and contrast them. Here are some key terms which students can use to help them get started:
