Get your students to write a letter to “Dear Reading,” or “Dear Literacy,” or “Dear Science,” or “Dear Physical Education,” and see what beliefs, generalizations, assumptions and stereotypes arise in the writing. Don’t show before hand that you are looking for underlying meaning. This is a suitable intermediate/senior literacy activity useful for responding to and evaluating text.
